A half day tour in the world heritage site in Ayutthaya with a downstream cruise to Bangkok

Day 1

06:15-07:30 a.m. – You will be picked up from your hotel in Bangkok’s city center. (Please note that this tour is a group tour that you will travel with other tourists in the same vehicle.)

07:30 a.m. – When the group is ready, we will head north to Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Siamese Kingdom, renowned for past relics and ancient temple ruins.
09:00 a.m. – Arrive in Ayutthaya and visit Wat Phu Khao Thong. This is an old Buddhist temple built around the late 14th century. It is knwonfor a big white-grey spire monument with an amazing Mon-style chedi.

09:30 a.m. – Continue to Ayutthaya Historical Park, which is also a world heritage site, to visit the famous Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, one of the most important historical sites during Ayothaya Period. It was the former royal temple, lying inside the grand palace compound. Then, walk to the Viharn Phra Mongkolbopit, a beautifully decorated shrine that houses a large bronze cast Buddha statue. The stupa is highly revered by Thai Buddhists nationwide. It was originallly enshrined in the open area and later covered by a building in the early 17th century during reign of King Songtham.

12:00 – Enjoy Thai Lunch at a local restaurant

13:00 – You will visit Wat Lokaya Sutha. It was once one of the biggest temples in Ayutthaya kingdom. The evidence is a large reclining Buddha (8 meters high and 42 meters long) lying in an open field. After this tour, you will travel to the pier at Wat Niwet Thammaprawat to start the Mekhala cruise on the Chao Phraya river.

The boat sets sail around 3 p.m. Now is the time to relax and enjoy watching the rural life along the “River of Kings”. You will stop for a visit at the small village of Baan Saladang, an aged-old Mon community which migrated from Burma to this area in the early 19th century. The villagers here have successfully maintained their traditional life style, customs and natural surroundings. You will also see a collection of well-preserved typical Thai houses in this charming village.

Soon after sunset, the MEKHALA will dock at Wat Kai Tia, a local Buddhist temple set in a tranquil village. An exquisite candlelit dinner of mouth-watering Thai delicacies awaits you on the deck. You will spend the night on board the boat in your air-conditioned cabin.

Day 2

Today, we will leave the pier early for a visit to the morning market in Pathum Thani. You will observe the way of life of local people as they shop for food and fresh produce. Afterwards, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast on board. The boat will continue cruising down the river to Bangkok. You will be able to take in the sights, marveling at the magnificent Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn along the way.
