The Mekhala is a collection of three elegantly restored, beautifully crafted rice barges. The barges provide the setting for overnight journeys between Bangkok and Ayutthaya – retracing the paths of former royal processions. Your journey on the Mekhala starts in Bangkok and ends in Ayutthaya/Bang Pa-in Summer Palace, or vice versa.
There are only six rooms, promising you an unparalleled sense of intimacy and personalization as you cruise the river of the Kings. Optional tours such as a guided visit to the Summer Palace and to the Ancient City of Ayutthaya, as well as transfer options are available.
Our prices include a 1-night/2-day cruise onboard the Mekhala with a delicious Thai dinner, breakfast and snacks, water, tea and coffee with meals, accommodation based on sharing a double cabin with air-conditioning and private bathroom and the services of an experienced crew.
We can provide transfer, with additional cost, between Bangkok and Ayutthaya for guests who take the Mekhala cruise.
For downstream cruise (Ayutthaya-Bangkok), if you travel to Bang-Pa-In town by bus or train from Bangkok (about 90 minute ride), our crew will pick you up at a bus terminal or a train station in Bang Pa In town. For upstream cruise (Bangkok-Ayutthaya), we can drop you off at the bus terminal or the Bang-Pa-In train station after the end of the cruise. Read our public transportation guide here.
The Mekhala Rice Barges are also available for charter for day/dinner cruises and overnight cruises on the Chao Phraya River.
